An example of the massacres of Greek Cypriots

During the 1974 Peace Operation, when the Greek Cypriot and Greek forces could not stand up to the Turkish army, they targeted Turkish Cypriot civilians in the villages. They burned, destroyed, tortured, and murdered. From infants not yet a year old to ninety-year-olds, from women to the disabled, they shot them, burned them alive, tied them together with wires, and set the bodies on fire. The mass graves discovered after the operation brought the atrocity to light.

“The Turkish inhabitants of Muratağa Village were massacred on August 16th. Most were elderly, women, and children. They were killed by Greeks from neighboring villages on the second day of the Turkish offensive. They were killed while being forced to dig these death pits, where the bodies remained only about a meter deep. This could never be war. This could only be an act of wickedness.”
